The Governing Body

The governing body at Hempstead Infant School is a very committed and hard working group of volunteers whose primary concern is the education, well-being and happiness of the children and staff. We come from all walks of life and backgrounds and represent the parents, staff and local community.

The role of the governing body is to;

  • Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school
  • Oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent
  • Contribute to the school's self-evaluation and understand its strengths and weaknesses
  • Support and strengthen school leadership, holding the Head and Senior Leadership Team to account for improving the educational performance of the school and its pupils and the performance management of staff.

The day-to-day running and management of the school is the role of the educational professionals, namely the Head Teacher and the Senior Leadership Team. Through monitoring the different aspects of the school's work we aim to help the Senior Leadership Team to identify the school's strengths and weaknesses and then support the school as it seeks to develop strategies for improvement.

The governing body of a school is based on a stakeholder model; that is to say it is made up of representatives of those groups who have an interest in how effective the delivery of education and care is in school. This includes parents, staff and the local community. From time to time we also invite associate members who bring a specific interest or skill.

Contacting the Governors

Governors cannot deal with issues concerning individual children or matters that are a matter of routine or part of the day to day running of the school. These should be raised through the normal channels e.g. the class teacher or Headteacher as set out in the Complaints Policy.

For any other issue, the Chair of Governors, Mr John Colam, can be contacted by letter through the school office.

Minutes of past meetings can be inspected on request at the school office. The minutes of the current Governing Body meetings held can be found on this site."
